The girls basketball team will be under a new head coach for the first time in 25 years with Jay Knaak taking over for Neil Woofter. The change will bring a new philosophy to playing the game, one that will play to the players strengths and produce the same winning tradition as in the past.
Coach Knaak's philosophy is the get the ball up and down the court with fast break play and stiffling defense. The girls have adjusted well so far in converting to the new system and are making great gains everyday in practice. Coach Knaak expects the the four seniors to lead the team. Lacey Hill has started for 3 years and Bobbi Tennant and Renee Coudeyras have started for 2 years, with Katie Laflin playing the 6th man role for the past 2 years. The Juniors expected to help out the team are Crystal Culp, Sarah Sedlacek, Tiffany Hill, Cyndie Gaddy and Amber Sargent. The Sophomores that will contribute to the success of the team are Kelly Flesner, Whitney Hippen, Nicole Hippen and Amy Weyers. Coach Knaak's outlook on the season is that of guarded optimism. We should be very competitive in the conference and district by the end of the year. I know it will take a little time for the girls to adjust to the new system but as the year goes along, they should be able to play with anyone in the state.
